Fresh from her Ballon d’Or nomination, Sam Kerr has been presented with her very own signature Air Force 1 sneakers by Nike to celebrate yet another incredible year in the 25-year-old’s career.
Now at the back end of 2018, a year of characteristically successful domestic seasons and national team performances, Kerr looks ahead to the almighty challenge of leading the Matildas to glory in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Considered a global superstar of the women’s game, the Fremantle-born striker is also the face of much of Nike’s Australian branding and promotional material.
Now Australia's golden girl has had her contributions to the progression of female football recognised with a custom pair of Air Force 1’s.
Dubbed the ‘SK20s’, the predominantly clean, white sneakers feature the iconic Nike swoosh in gold, with the SK20 branding appearing on the heel.
Kerr’s name and shirt number appear in black on the heel counter, but the real standout is the removable lace cover with its black-and-white psychedelic design and stylised ‘20’, Kerr’s Matildas squad number.
In true recognition of her talent, Nike has also managed to incorporate all of Kerr’s major accolades and achievements across her careers in the W-League and NWSL, as well as at an international level.
Backing up several golden boots and ‘Best Player’ achievements, Kerr also holds several impressive records, particularly in America’s NWSL.
Whilst comfortably being the all-time league-leading goalscorer with 55 goals, the Aussie also boasts the most goals in season (17), most goals in a single game (4) and most hattricks in a single season (2).
Incredibly, all of these accolades, and plenty more, have been finely printed on the boot laces, with the shoe overall serving as a fitting tribute to one of Australia’s finest.
